Inside Rainglass

Rainglass’s Home on a TV: a film recommended for you in the hero with its title art, rating and a Play button, and a Trending row of posters below.
Home. What you’re watching comes first, from every server, then picks that follow on from what you watched last.
The Movies tab: a Recently Added shelf of films from the library, with an In Cinemas shelf below it.
Movies and Series. Plex, Jellyfin and Emby become one library, with collections, the week’s Top 30 and what’s trending.
Tears of Steel’s page: title art, its picture and sound formats, rating, a short plot, Play and round buttons for more, and the cast in a row of portraits.
A page for every title. Picture and sound formats, ratings, cast, awards, and which of your Plex friends have watched it.
Favourite apps above the tabs, with Plex’s Continue Watching and Trending opened in a panel below them.
Your apps, above the tabs. Rest on an app and App Peek shows what’s inside it before you open it.

Tears of Steel

2012 · Science fiction · 12 m 4K

Scientists and fighters gather in an old church in Amsterdam to replay one moment from the past and stop the robots.

This is Rainglass’s Home, working. Use the arrow keys, swipe across it or tap a title: the top of the screen follows what you pick, the way it does on the TV.

Works with what you already have

  • Your Plex servers and libraries, your watchlist and Plex Lists, and a profile for each person in a Plex Home.

  • Jellyfin

Your Jellyfin servers and libraries, signed in once, with where you stopped kept on the server.

  • Emby

Your Emby servers and libraries, side by side with the rest in one library.

  • HDHomeRun

Live TV from an HDHomeRun tuner on your home network. Rainglass finds it by itself and adds its channels to Live TV.

Rainglass works with these products; it isn’t made, endorsed or supported by their owners.

Stages

Home’s Highly Anticipated stage: a film’s title art and synopsis over its backdrop, with a shelf of upcoming films and series below, each with its date.
Highly Anticipated. Films about to open in your cinemas and new series, each with its date.

Home carries on below Continue Watching.

Switch Stages on and each row after it sits on a stage: the title you rest on fills the screen behind its shelf, with the rows above and below still in view. Scroll on and one stage hands over to the next.

Leave it off for plain rows, which are quicker on a streaming stick.

Home’s Recommended for You stage: a series’ title art over its backdrop, with a shelf of posters below.
Recommended for You. Picks worked out from what you’ve watched and what’s on your watchlist.
  • Live TV rows too

With Live TV set up, rest on a channel and its live picture plays on the stage behind it.

  • Movies and Series as well

The same stages carry the Top 30 and Recently Added, one shelf at a time.

The corner of Home keeps the score, the weather and your week.

Rest on one and its card opens.

Scores
Your teams and competitions on a ticker beside Search, live while they play. A match has its own card with a timeline of goals and cards, and Spoiler-free is there for when you’d rather not know yet.
Weather
Your own town: now, the next few hours and the days ahead, in Celsius or Fahrenheit, with the sky drawn as it is.
Score alerts
While a film or episode plays, a small card drops in when someone scores, then goes. Choose your teams or every live match. It stays quiet while Spoiler-free is on.
Coming up
Today’s date and the week ahead: the reminders you set in the guide and your teams’ next matches, with the channel each one is on.

Keeping track

Libraries, watchlists, your own rows and where you stopped.

One watchlist, or several
Pick Plex’s watchlist, one of your Plex Lists or Trakt’s, and Home follows it. Pick All to use the lot. Hold OK on a title to put it on a particular watchlist, or take it off one.
Sort and filter
Sort and filter a watchlist by genre, year, age rating, runtime, score, released or not yet, and whether you can play it on your servers or in your apps.
A card for every library
Press Left at the start of a shelf for each server’s libraries, Live TV’s films and series, and your watchlist.
Your rows, your order
The same card lists every row on the page by name, so you can jump straight to one. Press Edit to hide a row or move it up or down; the page changes behind it as you go.
More to browse
Movies has Popular, Top Rated and In Cinemas. Series has Popular, Top Rated, Airing Today and New Series & Seasons. The charts are filled from your own libraries, and what’s coming shows its date.
Whole seasons
Mark a season watched or unwatched in one go. Trakt gets the history too.
Back where you stopped
Press Back, then Resume, and it starts where you left off, even before your server has the news. If the connection dropped, the report is sent again once it’s back.
What your friends are saving
The films and series your Plex friends have added to their watchlists, and who has watched a title, as their privacy settings allow.

Intelligent Setup

To begin

Rainglass reads the box, the screen and the sound system, and fills in the defaults for them: the graphics level, frame-rate matching, which formats go to your receiver.

Rainglass’s Settings: coloured sections on the left with Live TV chosen, its groups beside them, and a living room behind.

Next

Connect Plex, Jellyfin or Emby, or skip it and use your apps. Settings is a living room that turns to each section as you move down the list.

Three levels of Settings at once: the section icons, the Live TV list, and the TV Guide’s switches in a glass panel.

Three levels deep at most

Every setting is explained in plain words.

The profile card: network, display size, theme, picture-in-picture, sleep timer, running apps, Rainglass settings and the TV’s settings.

From then on

On Android TV and Google TV, the Home button opens Rainglass. Your profile picture opens a card with the network, display size, theme, sleep timer, running apps, and both Rainglass’s settings and the TV’s own.

Settings with a card in the corner: a QR code, an address and a six-digit code for a phone or computer, over the Home screen section.

Any time

You can open Settings on your phone or computer too. Scan the code on the TV, or type its address and the six-digit code; it only works on your home network.

Fire TV
Fire TV sticks, cubes and TVs on Fire OS 7 or 8. The newest sticks, from the Fire TV Stick 4K Select on, use a different system and can’t install it.
Android

Any box
Rainglass adapts to your box: quick on a basic Fire TV Stick, and at its most beautiful on a powerful box like the NVIDIA Shield, with frosted glass and soft blur. Older and cheaper boxes get a lighter look by themselves, so they stay quick.
A living room at night, rain on the window, a television’s glow.
Rainglass on iPhone, Home: the mark at the top, a new series on the stage with More info, and a card offering to pair with your TV, over rain on a window at night. Live TV on iPhone: favourite channels, each with what’s on now, how far in it is and what’s next. Films and Series on iPhone: a grid of posters sorted A to Z.

On your phone

Rainglass for Android phones, iPhone and iPad brings Live TV and the films and series on your servers, with a player that skips intros and recaps and lines up the next episode.

Pair it with your TV once, and your playlists, favourites and where you stopped stay the same on both. On iPad, the tabs become a sidebar.

Shown on iPhone, with a made-up demo playlist.

Everything in step

Home screen, media player, Live TV, phone app and media server, made to work as one. Start a film on the TV, finish it on your phone, and your lists, channels and history follow you.

  • Cross-device sync

Pair a phone, a tablet or another TV once, with the code on the screen. Your playlists and their logins, favourite channels, lists and where you stopped stay the same on all of them, at home or away. It’s sealed on your device before it leaves, so our server can’t read it.

  • Trakt sync

On the TV, sign in with a code from your phone. Trakt’s watchlist joins Plex’s, what you watch goes into your Trakt history as you watch it, a whole season can be marked in one go, and your Trakt plays shape what’s recommended.

  • Intelligent Remote Later

Your phone finds Rainglass on the TV at home and offers to be its remote: the buttons, a keyboard for searches and sign-ins, and Play on TV from your phone. Until then, Settings shows a code that opens a remote in your phone’s browser.

Rainglass Server

Rainglass Server shares your films and series from a Windows PC, a Mac, a Linux machine or a NAS with every TV at home. The TV finds it by itself and offers to connect. Choose Allow on the server, and that’s it.

Family in another home can watch too: give them your server’s address and an invite code, and their TV connects over the internet with nobody choosing Allow. On a NAS or a server, it runs without a window, in Docker or as a service.

Files play as they are, with nothing converted, so 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision reach the TV untouched. Posters and plots come from TMDB.

Set up by your AI assistant

Rainglass Server has its own command line and MCP server, so the AI assistant on your computer can set it up and look after it for you. It works with Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Cursor, VS Code and others.

Connect yours from Rainglass Server’s Settings with one click, then ask in your own words: share a folder, let a new TV in, fix a film that picked up the wrong poster. It asks you for the code on the TV before it lets one in.

The assistant reaches only the Rainglass Server on its own computer. Nothing on your network can use that connection.

Questions

Does Rainglass come with films or channels?

No. Rainglass is a home screen and media player. It shows what’s on your own servers, in your apps and in the sources you add. It doesn’t provide, host or distribute content.

Which TVs and boxes does it run on?

Android TV and Google TV on Android 8 or newer, and Fire TV devices on Fire OS 7 or 8. Fire TV sticks on Vega OS, the 4K Select and newer, can’t run Android apps.

Will the Home button open Rainglass?

On Android TV and Google TV, yes. On Fire TV, Rainglass opens from Fire TV’s own home screen, and Fire TV keeps the Home button for itself.

Do I need Plex, Jellyfin or Emby?

No. Without a server, Home is built from your apps, App Peek and the trending rows, and the Live tab shows your channels once you add a tuner, a provider login or a playlist. For films on a computer or a NAS, Rainglass Server is free for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Can my AI assistant set up Rainglass Server?

Yes. In Rainglass Server, go to Settings › Manage with an AI assistant and choose Connect beside yours: Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI, Windsurf or the Claude app. Any other assistant can run rainglass-server guide and follow it. See how it works.

Does it work with Trakt?

Yes, on the TV; the phone apps will follow. Sign in with a code from your phone: Trakt’s watchlist sits beside Plex’s, what you watch is added to your Trakt history as you watch it, and your Trakt plays shape what’s recommended. Everything in step.

Is there a subscription?

Yes. Rainglass will have a subscription with a free trial and no ads. Rainglass Server is free.

Is there a phone app?

Yes. Rainglass for Android phones, iPhone and iPad pairs with your TV, so your playlists, favourites and where you stopped stay the same on both. See it on iPhone. The Apple TV version follows.
